GERIATRIC NURSING AID

A Geriatric Nursing Aid provides care to elderly patients. As a Geriatric Aid, your job duties include helping patients with daily activities, duties include helping patients with daily activities such as cooking, light housekeeping, administering medications, moving bed redden patients, feeding patients. You also need to have a good physical stamina, a caring and patient personality & excellent communication skills.

Half Payment due before the start of class. Balance before the end of the first month.

Geriatric nursing aid – Course Outline – 

  • Discuss & verbilize the role of a basic healthcare provider related to elderly
  • List the basic healthcare needs of ambulatory conscious elderly people, non – ambulatory/ bed ridden frail elderly people etc.
  • Build a comprehensive knowledge base on basic issues in geriatric care
  • Enhance their and capacities in councel and manage older persons who are at home, admitted in healthcare institutions.
  • Enhance their knowledge in resource management, advocacy & related to care of oldr persons
  • Demonstrate techniques to maintain the personal hygiene needs of an elderly patient
  • practice infection control measures
  • demonstrate safety, understand usage of protective devices and demonstrate precautions to take while usage of equipment and assistive devices

  • Take sound decision regarding hospilitization, or timely referral to other hospitals for various care and recognizing their limitations in knowledge and skills in these areas.
  • Getting along with, working with and co-operating with caregivers/ family members who are also taking care of older persons
  • Reporting signs of severe illness/ deterioration to higher authorities as per timeline.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this course accredited with the Pharmacy Board/ Nursing Council?

The Pharmacy Board/ Nursing Council does not accredit any programmes. Only ACTT does this and they do not accredit certificate courses.

The Pharmacy Board only register pharmacists. A pharmacy technician works under the supervision of a pharmacist. Only a pharmacists can dispense medication under the law.

Geriatric Nursing Aid is a course that prepares you to work in private nursing homes- NOT Government Hospitals. Only Registered Nurses (RNs) or ENAs work in hospitals.

What type of certification will I receive?

You will receive a Certificate of Completion from Daniel’s Tuition and Training Services, which will be used to write the international American Allied Health (AAH) exam. You show proof that you graduated from an approved American Allied Health (AAH) training program/ center. You will upload your certificate and transcript to American Allied Health (AAH) and write their exam.

On successful completion of the exam, you will receive your International Certificate. We have students already working in Pharmacies and some are working to open their own Pharmacies.

Are there any practicals?

There is One (1) month of practical sessions out of the Three (3) required for the course.

Do I need any O’Levels?

You must have 5 O’ Levels to complete this course.
